We can talk about ischemia, when for some reasons the cells, tissues, organs don’t get appropriate amount of oxygen and nutrition. As a consequence that the viability of cells is going to decrease and finally it will cease completely. Worst cases are stroke and heart attack due to occlusion of the vascular system (embolus, thrombus). Furthermore these include the organ donation where the organs are in ischemic condition until transplantation. The latest studies try to modell and understand these processes using in vitro cell cultures in cellular level. The purpose of these researches is to preserve the original condition and to regenerate the penumbral cells during and after ischemic condition.
